What are we afraid of?

On my morning run, passing people, I would say hello. The passes by would look at me as if I was going to rob them. I thought they were going to jump into the bushes; like I gave them a fight. Now I’m not a very scary person. I’m only quite small. It was early morning, and I did roll out of bed, and out the door. But hey I had sunglasses on. It just amazes me, how people are so closed off in our world. What are we afraid of?

  1. I can totally relate to you..I too run everymorning and like you I am also very small but whenever I say “hi” to people I’d pass by I would get this look of “gosh what are you?”…it is true that at some point we are scared of the things we shouldn’t actually be scared of…this mentality hinders us from expanding our horizon and meeting new people…enjoy your morning run..

  2. I used to live in E. Africa where people are generally friendlier. They smile, look you in the eye, and greet you even if you are a stranger.
Americans (in public at least) are suspicious and skittish in comparison.
It’s a cultural thing I guess. There are ethnic groups much more reserved than Americans.

  3. This is very relatable to me, although when I’m walking around town, most people stare at me like I’m some sort of alien. Might be the sunglasses, or the tattoos, or the fact that I’m not afraid. Maybe you’ve been blessed with the curse of looking intimidating through no fault of your own? Either way it’s probably because most people don’t know how to react to genuine kindness. Who knew a smile could be so threatening.
